What are e-Cigarettes?
Electronic cigarettes are the hottest new product around. After years of increased government regulation and taxes, there is finally an alternative for smokers.
The device consists of a battery and a cartomizer(atomizer + cartridge). The cartridge contains liquid nicotine. The atomizer internally heats the cartridge producing a vapor which is then inhaled. Each cartridge should last as long as approximately one pack of cigarettes.
What makes this product so great is that it allows smokers to inhale the nicotine without all of the awful additives that are in cigarettes and tobacco. In fact, preliminary testing of some other e-cigs appears to indicate that there are very limited traces of no more than two potential carcinogens. However, in terms of ingredients, there are actually zero known carsinogens in our product. This means that there are NO KNOWN cancer causing agents. Although nicotine is certainly among the most addictive drugs in existence, it is not known to cause cancer.
What is in there with the nicotine you ask? Propylene Glycol, Tabanone, Damascone, Linalool, Acetylpyrazine, and Dimethylpyrazine. Both Propylene Glycol and Tabanone are generally recognized by qualified experts as being safe substances, and these two substances account for the vast majority of our nicotine cartridges. Damascone is the other significant ingredient, and this is a naturally occurring flavoring that can be found in a number of fruits. The other 3 ingredients are food additives that are considered safe for consumption. In fact Dimethylpyrazine occurs naturally in beef, cocoa, pork, and shrimp; and Acetylpyrazine naturally occurs in almonds, peanuts, and popcorn.
Why keep living in the past when the future is right in front of you? 21 Century Smoking is a cigarette for the 21st century. Why keep smoking that dangerous product that your grandma and grandpa smoked? There is no time like today to give it a shot. Choose which one is best for you!
What is the nicotine content vs. tobacco cigarettes?
Compare the concentration between the cartridge and the nicotine content of cigarette:
Typically, a cigarette last about 12-15 mouthfuls of inhale. The same is true for 0.1 milliliters of e-liquild. Therefore, 0.1 milliliters of e-liquild is equivalent of one cigarette.
0.1milliliters e-liquild ≈ 1pcs cigarette
Nicotine Concentration insides a cartridge:
- Super concentration? 24 mg
- High concentration ? 16 mg
- Middle concentration?11 mg
- Low concentration? 6 mg
- Zero concentration? 0 mg
Nicotine content of each inhalation for a real cigarette :
In general, nicotine content of cigarettes range from 0.6 mg to 2.4 mg. A cigarette last about 12-15 mouthfuls of inhale. Therefore, real cigarette’s nicotine content of each inhalation is:
- When nicotine content of cigarettes is 0.6mg: 0.6/15 = 0.040 mg
- When nicotine content of cigarettes is 0.4mg: 2.4/15 = 0.160 mg
Nicotine content of each inhalation when smoking Electronic Cigarette:
Again, a cigarette last about 12-15 mouthfuls of inhale. Depending on the size of a cartridge, an electronic cigarette’s nicotine content of each inhalation is:
- for super-high concentrations? 24 mg — 2.4/15 = 0.160 mg
- for high concentrations? 16 mg — 1.6/15 = 0.107 mg
- for middle concentrations? 11 mg — 1.1/15 = 0.073 mg
- for low concentrations? 6 mg — 0.6/15 = 0.040 mg
- for zero-concentration? 0 mg 0 mg
Is Smoking a Zigret Safe?
Well, that is almost a silly question if you already smoke tobacco cigarettes. It is really hard to find anything that can do more physical damage to your body than smoking tobacco. You could jump off of a bridge or run your car into a brick wall on purpose at a high speed. That might bring you a faster death, but actually it could be more painless than dying from smoking related diseases. You have to face the fact that when inhale tobacco smoke on a regular basis everyday, you will more than likely eventually get very sick and suffer the consequences. Smoking related diseases can last a really long time and it is never pretty.
Many smokers are either already trying or have thought about trying an e cigarette as a replacement for getting their nicotine. However there has been a lot of controversy about the e cigarette so far. A lot of the scare tactics that some organizations have tried to use are not all hat they seem to be. Some ingredients they found in a very small quantity in a only one or two electronic cigarettes they tested are also some of the same ingredients that are found in tobacco. They have yet to produce any tests that show that the electric cigarette is any more harmful than smoking tobacco, but there is a lot of evidence that points to the fact that is is more than likely a lot less harmful to use than smoking tobacco.
Just the fact that the e cigarette does not produce any real carcinogenic smoke or tar from burning tobacco has to be better than smoking that. The e cigarette is not carcinogenic because it is never burned. The nicotine liquid is heated to the point of producing a vapor. This is what the user inhales instead of toxic smoke. There are a very few chemicals involved in producing the nicotine liquid, but when you compare those chemicals to the thousands that are used to grow and manufacture tobacco, it is almost nothing to even consider. Propylene glycol is the the main chemical ingredient in nicotine liquid and it is already used in a large variety of FDA approved products for use and consumption by the public.
It is not likely that anyone would tell you that the electric cigarette is a perfect product, but when you compare it to smoking tobacco, even the worst of skeptics have not found any way to prove that is is even close to being as hazardous as smoking tobacco.
Can genetics effect my smoking habit?
So far studies do show that our genetic make up and genes that might be defective can predispose some of us to be more likely to become alcoholics, drug addicts, or even be cigarette smokers. Although the study of genetics is a very complicated matter that most of us really might not be able to comprehend easily, it does not take a genius to figure out that if you had parents that were alcoholics, that you might be an alcoholic. If your great grandfather drank too much that could be why your dad and then you drink too much.
The thing about being genetically predisposed is that it might not matter what you try and like, you could become addicted to that as well. Some people just seem to have a problem becoming addicted to many things. You might be someone that drinks too much and loves to gamble while doing it. You might be a pot smoker who also overeats. You might become addicted to pornography and sex, and also have a meth addiction. When you look at people with these kinds of addictions, they will many times also be cigarette smokers.
Sometimes smoking is the very first addiction someone will have. This does not necessarily mean that a person is predisposed to smoking, but it might mean that someone who is not could have an easier time stopping than someone who is. A person that can become addicted to anything easily will usually have a harder time quitting that particular habit. It does not mean that they can not quit whatever they are addicted to, only that it can be harder for them than others.
This genetic thing is one good reason that some people should do their best to stay away from some things that they could become addicted to. If you went to a race track once or played poker once or twice and then you were plagues with excessive thoughts of doing it again, it might be something you just need to not do again. If you drank alcohol a few times and could not wait until your next opportunity to do it again, perhaps you should stay quit while you are ahead.
The ability to stop something easily is what separates some of us from those that are predisposed to addiction. Sometimes smoking cigarettes are the first addiction because they are so easy to get when we are young and the easiest thing to get away with. It is usually later on when we are introduced to other things like sex, alcohol, gambling, and drugs. If you are pretty sure you are someone that becomes addicted to things easily, then you always need to use caution before you ever engage in any activity that could be a problem. I smoke, do smokers even like these things…
How well a smoker is satisfied with using an electronic cigarette is probably something that you would have to ask each individual smoker. There have been spots on some news programs where an older man that used to smoke four packs of cigarettes a day, if you can even imagine that, and now he uses the electronic cigarette. Another lady interviewed who was sixty seven years old and used to smoke over two packs a day, said she now smokes only one pack of cigarettes every four days or so because she uses the electronic cigarette in between. She also said her doctor was very pleased with her progress in giving up tobacco and so was she.
The electronic cigarette is marketed as smoking alternative, not a stop smoking aid, but it does seem that it helps some smokers to smoke far less tobacco cigarettes or not smoke any tobacco at all. This is because the smoker can still get the nicotine that they are addicted to. Now, you might think that it is a bad thing to continue to give someone something that they are addicted to, but when you consider that the nicotine itself is not what causes all of the cancerous diseases that people get from smoking tobacco, it is not so bad after all. The nicotine liquid is also not set on fire in any way which also eliminates the tar they would also be getting from smoking tobacco. The very fact that tobacco is loaded with thousands of chemicals, many of them deadly, and the tar a smoker inhales, the electronic cigarette is a vast improvement over that.
The smoker can still get the warm smoke sensation from the device, but it is only a water based nicotine solution that is heated using a battery and atomizer that delivers the nicotine to the smoker. This means there is no tar and no real smoke, secondhand or otherwise. You know this can not be bad either. In a perfect world no one would ever smoke anything, but when you smoke a pack of cigarettes or more a day, anything you can smoke that is not as harmful to you as tobacco is a definite improvement. Most research studies show that the nicotine liquid is much safer than smoking tobacco by far.
Heavy smokers that have tried desperately to give up tobacco many times and were never able to are very glad that they now have their electronic cigarette. It allows them to stop using or reduce the amount of tobacco they are smoking in an easy way. Part of the quit smoking process is not just the addiction to nicotine, but also the act of smoking itself. The electronic cigarette gets the deadly tobacco out of the equation and yet allows a smoker to satisfy both their craving for nicotine and their urge to hold a cigarette and inhale.
So what comes out if it’s not smoke?
You can ask anyone that has quit smoking tobacco how is was to quit and almost all of them will tell you that it was one of the most difficult things they ever had to do. They knew they wanted to stop smoking tobacco and the only way to do it was bite the bullet and get started. Some tried many times and failed many times. The lucky few who managed to give it a go once and succeeded are in a league of their own. It is a rare thing to attempt quitting tobacco the first time and be successful.
The main reason that most tobacco smokers want to give it up is because of the tobacco itself. They know that the main reason smoking tobacco is deadly is because the burning process makes it carcinogenic. When tobacco is burned it also produces that sticky tar residue that adheres to the walls of the bronchial tubes and the lungs. It causes the smoker to cough and produce more mucus than normal. It causes irritated sinuses that can drain almost constantly trying to clear themselves. Then there is all of the chemical content in tobacco. It is not there naturally, but is added by growers and cigarette manufacturers for one reason or another. These chemicals are completely unnecessary.
There is a misconception that the only thing that keeps a tobacco smoker addicted is the nicotine. This is simply not true. The habit of having something in their hand and putting something in their mouth is just as much a part of the smoking addiction as the nicotine. Even when a tobacco smoker purges the nicotine from their system, they still have that overwhelming desire to smoke. This is one of the biggest reasons that many tobacco smokers go back to smoking because they have had this habit of lighting and smoking something twenty times or more everyday. It is not a habit that just goes away.
Although electronic cigarettes are not marketed as a stop smoking device, but rather an alternative, it can be helpful for those that want to stop using tobacco. They will still get the nicotine that they crave and are still able to have that hand to mouth action they are so accustomed to. The best part is that they do not inhale real smoke, but a water and nicotine vapor that is thought by many researchers to be so much safer than tobacco smoke. They also get no tart from the product. There are a limited number of chemicals that are nothing like the deadly ones that are found in tobacco.
When a person uses an electric cigarette only, technically they have stopped smoking because they are not burning anything and are not inhaling smoke. They are still taking nicotine into their body, but even this is thought to be less addictive by many when the nicotine is removed from the tobacco, other chemicals, and tar. This however, is still being researched. Using an electric cigarette might not be the perfect solution for someone that wants to give up tobacco, but it is definitely a better choice than smoking tobacco.
Still not ready to quit smoking, there are 599 chemicals in tobacco cigarettes. Here is a brief list of some of the chemicals and poisons you injest:
A carcinogen is defined as any substance that can cause or aggravate cancer. Approximately 60 of the chemicals in cigarettes are known to cause cancer.
Tobacco-specific N-nitrosamines (TSNAs) are known to be some of the most potent carcinogens present in smokeless tobacco, snuff and tobacco smoke.
Benzene can be found in pesticides and gasoline. It is present in high levels in cigarette smoke and accounts for half of all human exposure to this hazardous chemical.
Pesticides are used on our lawns and gardens, and inhaled into our lungs via cigarette smoke.
Formaldehyde is a chemical used to preserve dead bodies, and is responsible for some of the nose, throat and eye irritation smokers experience when breathing in cigarette smoke.
Chemicals in Cigarettes: Toxic Metals
Toxic / heavy metals are metals and metal compounds that have the potential to harm our health when absorbed or inhaled. In very small amounts, some of these metals support life, but when taken in large amounts, can become toxic.
Commonly used in rat poison, arsenic finds its way into cigarette smoke through some of the pesticides that are used in tobacco farming.
Cadmium is a toxic heavy metal that is used in batteries. Smokers typically have twice as much cadmium in their bodies as nonsmokers.
Chemicals in Cigarettes: Radioactive Toxic Metals
There are a couple of toxic metals in cigarette smoke that carry an extra punch of danger for anyone breathing it in: they are radioactive.
Radioactive Cigarette Smoke
Lead-210 (Pb-210) and polonium-210 (Po-210) are poisonous, radioactive heavy metals that research has shown to be present in cigarette smoke.
Chemicals in Cigarettes: Poisons
Poison is defined as any substance that, when introduced to a living organism, causes severe physical distress or death. Science has discovered approximately 200 poisonous gases in cigarette smoke.
Ammonia compounds are commonly used in cleaning products and fertilizers. Ammonia is also used to boost the impact of nicotine in manufactured cigarettes.
Carbon monoxide is present in car exhaust and is lethal in very large amounts. Cigarette smoke can contain high levels of carbon monoxide.
Hydrogen cyanide was used to kill people in the gas chambers in Nazi Germany during World War II. It can be found in cigarette smoke.
